Patrick W. Kenny joined the International Insurance Society, Inc., as President & Chief Executive Officer in June 2001.  Mr. Kenny is responsible for the overall management of the IIS, a non-profit organization of insurance executives and academics, whose mission is to facilitate the worldwide transfer of ideas and innovations and to foster the development of personal networks across national and international insurance markets. The IIS, which was formed in 1964, today has over 900 members from 90 countries representing key insurance companies around the globe.

Prior to joining the IIS, Mr. Kenny was the Executive Vice President of Frontier Insurance Group, Inc. in Rock Hill, Rock Hill, NY, from August 1998 to March 2001. From 1995 – 1998 he served as Senior Vice President of SS&C Technologies, a technology corporation located in Windsor, CT.

Mr. Kenny served as Group Executive, Finance & Administration, and Chief Financial Officer at AETNA Life and Casualty from January 1988 to December 1994 where he was responsible for corporate finance, services and communications, as well as technology, investor relations and internal audit. Management responsibilities included overseeing 6000 employees.

Before joining AETNA, Mr. Kenny was the Partner in Charge of the Insurance Audit Practice and a member of the International Insurance Practice Committee at KPMG Peat Marwick from 1981 to 1987. Previously he served as Partner in Charge of the Continental Insurance Practice at KPMG offices in Paris, France and The Hague, Netherlands. Mr. Kenny started his career at KPMG Peat Marwick in St. Louis in 1966.

Mr. Kenny is a member of the boards of directors of Assured Guaranty, ING Partners Inc., Odyssey Re, IOF Forester and Overland Solutions. He is also a member of the University of Notre Dame Advisory Council for University Libraries.

A Certified Public Accountant in Missouri, Ohio and Connecticut, Mr. Kenny holds a Bachelor’s degree of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Karl Wittmann was born in Maxlried/Weilheim in 1945. He began his chartered insurance training with Munich Re in 1961, working as an underwriting technician in the Aviation Department and as an assistant underwriter in the Regional Department: Middle East, Far East, Australia and New Zealand. In 1970, Karl Wittmann was made Deputy Head of Munich Re’s London office. Following his return to Munich in 1985, he became a member of the Management of the Fire/Treaty Department and subsequently, in 1995, of the Operational Division: Asia and Australasia, and a Director. Mr. Wittmann joined the Board of Management in 1998 and is responsible for Asia, Australasia, Africa Division. He is married and has a daughter.

Ernst “Ernie” Csiszar (pronounced (Seh-zar) is president and chief executive officer of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI).

The PCI Board of Governors selected Csiszar in August of 2004 following an extensive search for an executive to lead the new organization, which was formed as a result of the merger of the National Association of Independent Insurers and the Alliance of American Insurers.  He assumed his duties in October 2004.

As president of PCI and its affiliates, Csiszar oversees a staff of 240 and a $40 million budget.  PCI is the most diverse of the property and casualty trade associations, representing more than 1,000 member companies that write almost 40 percent of the nation’s property and casualty insurance. It has offices in suburban Chicago and Washington, D.C, seven regional offices, and has lobbyists in every state.

Csiszar established a distinguished record in the insurance industry as a company executive, regulator and national leader. In 1999, he was appointed director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance, where he quickly earned a reputation as an exceptional regulator by introducing operational efficiencies and by helping create a thriving insurance market in South Carolina.  He also assumed a leadership role within the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), serving as secretary-treasurer and vice president.  He served as president of the NAIC in 2004. 

Prior to his appointment as director of insurance, Csiszar served as president and chief executive officer of Seibels Bruce Group, Inc., a Columbia, S.C. insurance company, from 1995 to 1998.  He was a visiting professor at the School of Business at the University of South Carolina from 1993 to 1995 and served as managing co-director of the European investment-banking firm Holborn Holdings Corporation in Geneva, Switzerland from 1979 to 1988.  

Csiszar was born in Romania and has often said his early years of life behind the Iron Curtain have had a tremendous impact on him.  He emigrated with his family to Ontario, Canada, where he completed high school in only two years.  Csiszar received a Bachelor of Arts in both mathematics and philosophy from the University of Windsor.  He received his LLB from the University of Windsor School of Law.  

Larry Lindsey is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Lindsey Group. He has held leading positions in government, academia, and business. Prior to forming The Lindsey Group, he held the position of Assistant to the President and Director of the National Economic Council at the White House and was the chief economic adviser to candidate George W. Bush during the 2000 Presidential campaign.

Dr. Lindsey also served as a Governor of the Federal Reserve System from 1991 to 1997, as Special Assistant to the President for Domestic Economic Policy during the first Bush Administration, and as Senior Staff Economist for Tax Policy at the Council of Economic Advisers during President Reagan's first term. Dr. Lindsey served five years on the Economics faculty of Harvard University and held the Arthur F. Burns Chair for Economic Research at the American Enterprise Institute. From 1997 until 2001 he was Managing Director of Economic Strategies, a global consulting firm.

Dr. Lindsey earned his A.B. Magna Cum Laude from Bowdoin College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University. He was awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award by the National Tax Association and named the Citicorp Wriston Fellow for Economic Research at the Manhattan Institute. He is the author of numerous articles and two books: The Growth Experiment and  Economic Puppet Masters.

Ted Kelly was elected Chairman of Liberty Mutual in April of 2000. 

Mr. Kelly joined Liberty Mutual in 1992 as President and Chief Operating Officer, and was elected Chief Executive Officer in 1998.

Mr. Kelly has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Liberty Mutual Group since 1992.  He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America; a member of the boards of Mellon Financial Corporation, the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay, the Boston Private Industry Council, the American Ireland Fund, The Massachusetts Mentoring Partnership; Chairman of the Property-Casualty CEO Roundtable; Chairman of the Board of the Insurance Information Institute; President of the Boston Minuteman Council, Boys Scouts of America, and he serves on various other community and education boards.  In addition, Mr. Kelly is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Born in Ireland, Mr. Kelly graduated from Queen's University in Belfast and obtained his Ph.D. in mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Evan G. Greenberg is President & Chief Executive Officer of ACE Limited, a position to which he was elected in May 2004. 

Mr. Greenberg joined the ACE Group of Companies in November 2001 as Vice Chairman, ACE Limited, and Chief Executive Officer, ACE Tempest Re. Mr. Greenberg distinguished himself quickly in this role and brought ACE’s reinsurance business to record profitability. Mr. Greenberg achieved similar results when his executive responsibility was expanded to include all of ACE’s international operations in early 2002 as Chief Executive Officer, ACE Overseas General. Mr. Greenberg was elected to the position of President & Chief Operating Officer, ACE Limited, in June 2003.

Over the course of more than 30 years in the insurance industry, Mr. Greenberg has held various underwriting and management positions, and gained significant insight in the global property, casualty and life insurance sectors.

Prior to joining ACE, Mr. Greenberg spent 25 years at American International Group, where he served as President and Chief Operating Officer from 1997 to 2000.  Before that, he held a variety of senior management positions, including Chief Executive Officer of AIG Far East, based in Japan, and President and Chief Executive Officer of AIU, AIG’s Foreign General Insurance Organization.

Mr. Greenberg is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Asia Society President’s Circle, and the Nixon Center for Peace and Freedom, and he serves as a trustee of the New York Philharmonic and the Lauder Institute.

Mme Lagarde read economics and American Studies at the University of Aix-en-Provence. She also studied at the Political Science Institute and the Paris Law School and, in 1980, graduated from Paris University with a post-graduate degree with special emphasis on business and labour law. She lectured in law at Paris X University, before joining Baker & McKenzie in 1981.

Alessandro A. Iuppa was initially appointed Maine’s Superintendent of the Insurance January 1998 and was re-appointed to a second term by Governor Baldacci in March 2004.

He is an active participant on insurance issues at both the national and international levels. In December 2004 he was elected the first President-elect of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC); he assumed the office of President in December 2005.   He currently serves as Chair of the Executive Committee and is a member of the Reinsurance Task Force and the International Insurance Committee. He is also designated by the NAIC to represent the United States at the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) where he serves as Chair of the Executive Committee.  During the past several years he has made numerous presentations on insurance matters in China, India, South Africa, Japan, and Europe on behalf of the NAIC, IAIS, and OECD. 

Prior to joining the Maine Bureau of Insurance, Superintendent Iuppa provided consulting services to various state insurance departments for the rehabilitation of financially impaired insurance companies. From 1986 to 1991, Alessandro was with the State of Nevada, serving as Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Insurance.

Superintendent Iuppa holds a master’s degree in public administration from Suffolk University School of Management in Boston and a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vermont. He is a resident of Falmouth, Maine.

His Excellency Dr. Bassel Hindawi is the Director General of the Insurance Commission of Jordan. Since assuming this position in early 2000, he managed the implementation of a multi-year action plan aimed at modernizing the regulatory framework in accordance with international best practices and enhancing the efficiency of the insurance sector. This positioned the Insurance Commission of Jordan to be recognized as a model regulatory authority in the region.

Dr. Hindawi also led the initiative to establish the Arab Forum of Insurance Regulatory Commissions (AFIRC) in late 2006, as a regional driving force for insurance regulation by promoting collaboration, transparency and adoption of international standards, in order to ensure the creation of a well-governed, well-regulated and well-supervised regional insurance and reinsurance industry.

In his capacity as President of the International Association of Insurance Fraud Agencies (IAIFA), Dr. Hindawi spearheaded the restructuring of the Association in order to give it a global dimension in combating insurance fraud and maximize the level of integrity throughout the insurance industry.

Prior to leading the Insurance Commission of Jordan, Dr. Hindawi previously worked as an advisor to the Minister of Industry & Trade on Jordan’s accession to the World Trade Organization, and at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, in addition to being a lecturer at the George Washington University.

Frank Nutter has been president of the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA) since May of 1991. He held the same position with the RAA from 1981-1984. Prior to becoming president of the RAA in 1981, Mr. Nutter served as the Association’s general counsel from 1978-1981.

In the interim, he was president of the Alliance of American Insurers and the Property Loss Research Bureau.

Mr. Nutter currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Bermuda Biological Station for Research; the Board of the International Hurricane Center; the Advisory Board of the Center for Health and the Global Environment, an adjunct to the Harvard University Medical School; and the Board of the University Center for Atmospheric Research.

Mr. Nutter has chaired the Natural Disaster Coalition, an effort to develop a program to respond to catastrophic earthquakes, hurricanes, and volcanic eruptions in the United States. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Worker’s Compensation Research Institute, and the Board of Overseers of the Institute for Civil Justice, a subsidiary of the Rand Corporation.  Mr. Nutter has been active on insurance and reinsurance issues at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. He served on the faculty of the American Institute’s first advanced education program and served on the Brookings Council, an affiliate of the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Nutter has a Juris Doctorate from the Georgetown University Law Center and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Nutter is a Vietnam veteran and is listed in Who’s Who in America.

Walter Bell is a respected insurance professional who has held some of the highest positions in the industry.

He is the retired vice president for diversity marketing for the MONY Group, a life insurance company that was founded in 1842 as the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York. In that role, Bell was based in New York and was responsible for ensuring the MONY Group’s field force reflected the diversity of the markets served by the company and the communities where its people lived and worked.

Bell joined the company as a financial professional in 1983, was promoted to site manager of the Mobile office in 1990; to national director of emerging markets in 1996, and assumed his vice president position in 1999.

Active in the industry, Bell served as chairman of the Diversity Marketing Committee of the Life Insurance Marketing Research Association and is a former member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and the Alabama Association of Life Underwriters. During his sales career, he was a member and past president of the Mobile Association of Life Underwriters.

He has extensive community involvement and serves on the national board of trustees of the Boys and Girls Club of America and the board of directors of the New York City United Way. In addition, Bell is a trustee of Mobile’s Senior Bowl Game and holds a partnership interest in the city’s AA minor league baseball team, the Mobile Bay Bears.

Bell graduated from Spring Hill College and serves on the school’s board of trustees.

Mark Puccia is a managing director of the Financial Services Ratings Group at Standard & Poor's, overseeing global insurance ratings criteria and quality. As Chief Quality Officer of Insurance Ratings worldwide, he is responsible for establishing insurance rating criteria for property\casualty insurance, reinsurance, life\health insurance, and various international insurance company ratings. Mark established Standard & Poor's initial ratings of life/health insurers and property/casualty insurers in the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.  He has been a member of Standard & Poor's Analytics Policy Board, which sets ratings' policy for the entire debt ratings division.

In addition to his criteria and ratings quality responsibilities, Mark has taken on analytic product development responsibilities for Standard & Poors’ Financial Services Group.  Mark oversees Standard & Poor’s Credit Training Services for financial services companies and has provided credit training to The Federal Reserve, State Insurance Departments, commercial banks, and insurance company management.

Mark is a frequent public speaker and has presented at the American Council of Life Insurance Chief Executive Officer Conference, the Federal Reserve Policy Forum, the Society of Actuaries National Conference, and the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada Annual Conference.  Mark has served as an advisor to numerous insurance regulatory task forces including the NAIC Risk-Based Capital Task Force and the NAIC Investment Reserve Task Force.  He has also published articles in the Record of the Society of Actuaries and the National Underwriter. Among his achievements, Mark has received Standard & Poor's President's award for "Outstanding Achievement in Innovative Development" for developing claims-paying ability ratings. 

Mark's prior work experience includes several years with Chase Manhattan Bank's insurance lending group arranging multi-million dollar credit facilities for several large insurers.  He arranged the first foreign financing for the country's largest stock-owned diversified financial services institution.  He previously served as a senior management analyst with Connecticut General Corp.'s group pension operations.

Mark holds a B.A. in economics from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Pennsylvania.

J. Barry Griswell is chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Principal Financial Groupâ. Griswell is responsible for overall management of the company.

Griswell joined the company in 1988 as an officer and agency vice president.  He became senior vice president in 1991 and executive vice president in 1996.  He was named president in 1998, became CEO in 2000 and chairman of the board in 2002. Prior to his association with the Principal Financial Group, he served as president and CEO of MetLife Marketing Corporation, a brokerage and supplementary distribution-marketing subsidiary of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

A native of Georgia, Griswell received his bachelor's degree from Berry College, Rome, Georgia and his master's degree from Stetson University, Deland, Florida.

Griswell is active in various industry and community organizations, including his current service as chair-elect of the American Council of Life Insurers, a board member of The Business Roundtable and a member of the board of trustees of the S.S. Huebner Foundation for Insurance Education.  He is a current trustee of Central College in Pella, Iowa and Berry College in Rome, Georgia. He is a director of the Business Committee for the Arts, trustee of United Way of America Board, and is a current chair of the United Way of America National Tocqueville Council. Griswell is a past president of the Federation of Iowa Insurers, past Chair of the Greater Des Moines Partnership, past chair of Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA) and past chair of Life Underwriters Trainers Council (LUTC). He received his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation, Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC) designation and is a Fellow of LIMRA Leadership Institute (LLIF).  Griswell is a 2003 Horatio Alger Association Distinguished American Award winner and the 2003 recipient of the Oscar C. Schmidt Iowa Business Leadership Award. He has been inducted into the Iowa Business Hall of Fame, is a recipient of the national Alexis de Tocqueville Society award, a 2004 recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and a 2004 recipient of the Central Iowa Philanthropic Award for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser. 

Steve is chairman and chief executive officer of CNA, the 7th largest U.S. commercial lines insurer and the 14th largest U.S. property and casualty insurer.

Under Steve's leadership, CNA has re-focused on its core strength in commercial insurance, re-underwritten its book of business, re-capitalized its financial base, rebuilt its operating platform, and focused on a set of core values - integrity, diversity, financial focus, customer focus, professionalism and teamwork.

Steve has served as chairman and CEO since 2002. Before joining CNA in 2001 as president & CEO, Property & Casualty Operations, Steve was executive vice president and head of the St. Paul Companies' $4.1 billion U.S. insurance operations, which included the Commercial Lines Group and Global Specialty Practices. Steve's prior experience included various executive positions at USF&G and Travelers. He began his insurance career in 1972.

Steve serves as a board member for a number of organizations, including CNA Financial Corporation, World Business Chicago, American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters/Insurance Institute of America, Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago, Northwestern Memorial Foundation, and The Executives' Club of Chicago.

Steve holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and a Bachelor's degree from College of Holy Cross.

Gregory C. Case is president and chief executive officer of Aon Corporation. He is a member of the company’s Board of Directors.

Since joining Aon in April 2005, Case has traveled extensively, meeting with clients and colleagues and working closely with the leadership team to strengthen Aon’s position with clients and markets.
Prior to joining Aon, Case served as head of the Financial Services Practice at McKinsey & Company, the international management consulting firm.  He previously had been responsible for McKinsey’s Global Insurance Practice.  Case was a member of McKinsey’s governing Shareholders’ Committee.  He has worked extensively in Continental Europe and the United Kingdom as well as North America. 
Before joining McKinsey, Case was with the investment banking firm of Piper, Jaffray and Hopwood and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

He is a member of the International Insurance Society, Inc., The Financial Services Roundtable, and The Economic Club of Chicago.
Case received his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University, graduating summa cum laude.  He earned his M.B.A. at Harvard Business School.

Greig is President, Chief Executive Officer, and a Director of Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated. Prior to becoming President of RGA, Greig served as Executive Vice President of General American Life Insurance Company, in charge of all reinsurance business. He joined General American in 1979 as an associate actuary. Greig then held a series of progressively more responsible positions within the reinsurance line and was named President and CEO in May of 1993 when RGA became a public company. Before coming to General American and RGA, Greig worked as an actuary at United Insurance Company in Chicago, Illinois.

Paul is a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he leads the firm’s U.S. Insurance Advisory Practice.  He has over 20 years experience specializing in the insurance industry.  In addition to his extensive audit-based experience, he has taken a lead role in several financial closing process reviews, internal audit outsourcing and co-sourcing engagements, and other controls and risk management engagements.  His clients include both international and domestic insurance companies.

Paul led the development of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Enterprise-wide Risk Management for the Insurance Industry Global Study, which was based on a comprehensive survey of 44 top global insurers.  Paul has led several Chief Risk Officer and Sarbanes Oxley Roundtable forums hosted by PricewaterhouseCoopers for the insurance sector.

Paul is a frequent contributor to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ “Americas Insurance Digest” publication and has written and published three articles entitled “Developing Effective Enterprise-wide Risk Management”, “More Effective Reporting for Insurance Companies and their Stakeholders,” and  “Embedding risk management into the DNA of the business.” 

Paul received his undergraduate degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia and is a member of the American, New York, California and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants.

Frank Keating took over as president and CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers the morning after leaving office as Oklahoma's 25th governor.

As president and CEO of ACLI, Governor Keating is the chief representative and spokesman for the life insurance industry in Washington, D.C., and all 50 state capitals. He and his staff work as advocates for nearly 400 life insurance companies that account for 75 percent of the life insurance and annuity markets in the United States.

Governor Keating was profiled in the National Journal as a new leader "pumping life into the ACLI." He has traveled the country meeting with executives from member companies. His Washington meetings have included key members of Congress and the Bush Administration. He recently was a featured speaker before the National Press Club in which he outlined the severe retirement crisis facing the nation. The speech was carried live on national television and radio.

Born in St. Louis in 1944, Keating grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from the University of Oklahoma. His 30-year career in law enforcement and public service included stints as an FBI agent; U.S. Attorney and state prosecutor; and Oklahoma House and Senate member. He served Presidents Reagan and Bush in the Treasury, Justice, and Housing Departments. His service in Treasury and Justice gave him responsibility for all of the federal criminal prosecutions in the nation and gave him oversight over such agencies as the Secret Service, U.S. Customs, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, U.S. Marshals, the Bureau of Prisons, and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

In 1993 he returned to Oklahoma to run for Governor. He won a three-way race by a landslide and was easily reelected in 1998, becoming only the second governor in Oklahoma history to serve two consecutive terms.

Governor Keating won national acclaim in 1995 for his compassionate and professional handling of the Oklahoma City bombing. His accomplishments as Governor include winning a public vote on right-to-work, tort reform, tax cuts, major road building, and education reform. His term at ACLI began on January 14, 2003. 

Frank and his wife Cathy live in McLean, Virginia. They have three children and three grandchildren.

Dr. Woo assumed the deanship of the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame in 1997.  Before then, she served as Associate Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Purdue University.  She joined Purdue as an Assistant Professor in 1981, became a Full Professor in 1991 and directed the Professional Master’s Programs in the Krannert School of Management from 1993 to 1995.   

Dr. Woo’s research focuses on strategy, entrepreneurship, and organizational systems.  She received the International Council for Small Business Distinguished Scholar Award, Best Paper Award (Entrepreneurship Division, Academy of Management, 1991, 1992) and the Salgo-Noren Award for Outstanding Teaching in the Master’s Programs.  In 1997, she was inducted into the Order of the Griffin by Purdue University for exceptional service and commitment.  In 1998, Change magazine, a publication of the American Association for Higher Education, named Dr. Woo one of forty Young Leaders of the Academy.  She received the 2002 Excellence Award for Education from the Asian American Alliance and the 2003 John S. Day Distinguished Alumni Academic Service Award from Purdue University.

Dr. Woo currently serves on the boards of AON Corporation, Circuit City and NiSource Incorporated. She is a member of the Board of Regents, University of Portland. In 2003, Dr. Woo was elected chair of AACSB International, the accreditation association for business schools and she was also elected to the Board of Catholic Relief Services.  She is a member of the Committee of 100, an organization of Chinese American leaders devoted to enhancing U.S.-China relations and the full participation of Chinese Americans in American life.

Dr. Woo is married to David E. Bartkus and they have two sons, Ryan and Justin.

John S. Scheid is the Global Leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) Insurance Assurance Services organization and Chairman of PwC’s Insurance Services group for North and South America, with responsibility for all services delivered to the insurance industry including assurance and

business advisory, tax, actuarial and financial advisory consulting.  The PwC Insurance group in the Americas is comprised of over 200 partners serving the insurance industry on a full time basis.  It has the leading market share of insurance company audits among the Big 4 accounting firms and is a leader in other specialized areas, such as actuarial consulting, risk management, regulatory/compliance advisory, and transaction services.

Mr. Scheid joined PwC in 1977.  He was admitted to the partnership in 1988.  Mr. Scheid became the Chairman of the firm’s Insurance Group in 1996.  In 2000, Mr. Scheid began serving on the firm’s Global Financial Services Leadership Team.

Mr. Scheid’s current clients include Assurant, Inc., Northwestern Mutual and Zurich Financial Services.  Clients served in the recent past have included Crum & Forster, Fairfax Financial Holdings, Fortis, NV, Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, Jackson National Life, MGIC, Prudential Insurance Company of America and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  As a senior partner within PwC, he has a broad background in all aspects of the financial services industry and the insurance industry and is a frequent speaker at insurance/corporate governance meetings and symposiums.

Mr. Scheid received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a Certified Public Accountant with licenses in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan and Wisconsin.  He contributes to many organizations as a volunteer and committee member, and serves on the Junior Achievement Worldwide Board of Directors (Chairman of the Audit Committee) as well as the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Foundation Board of Directors and Children’s Hospital President’s Council.  Mr. Scheid has been named to the “100 Most Influential People in the Insurance Industry – North America” list by Insurance Media Association for years 2002-2005.

Dan Kearney is a financial investor and independent director.

Mr. Kearney is a Director of two NYSE companies: MBIA, Inc., the country’s largest provider of municipal bond insurance, where he is Chairman of the Risk Oversight Committee; and MGIC, Inc., the country’s largest provider of mortgage insurance, where he is Chairman of the Securities Investment Committee and a member of the Audit Committee.  He is also a Director of Fiserv, a NASDAQ company providing operations and technology solutions to financial institutions, where he is Chairman of the Compensation Committee.

From 1991 to 1998 Mr. Kearney was Chief Investment Officer of Aetna, Inc., responsible for the $72 billion portfolio of all asset types. Aetna, Inc was the holding company for the Health, Property and Causality and Life operational divisions.  In 1994, he was named President of the Aetna Life & Annuity Company, the entity responsible for the company’s life insurance and pension products.  During his tenure,  the performance of the variable annuity product moved from the bottom to the top quartile, new channels of distribution were successfully initiated, and  earnings grew at a compound rate of 21%.

Prior to joining Aetna in 1991, Mr. Kearney served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Resolution Trust Corporation Oversight Board, created to address the savings and loan crisis.  Before joining the RTC Oversight Board, he was a principal at Aldrich, Eastman and Waltch, Inc. (AEW), a Boston-based pension fund advisor.

From 1977 to 1988 Mr. Kearney was with Salomon Brothers, Inc.  He was one of the founding members of the Mortgage Securities Department and had responsibility for the mortgage and real estate investment banking functions during his tenure.

From 1976 to 1977 Mr. Kearney was Associate Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for the U. S. Federal Government.  He served as President of the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae) from 1974 to 1976, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from 1973 to 1974, and Executive Director of the Illinois Housing Development Authority from 1969 to 1973.  He was in private law practice in Chicago from 1965 to 1968.

Mr. Kearney attended Michigan State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1961 and his Master of Economics degree in 1962.  He was awarded a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1965.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Mr. Kearney is a Director of the Joyce Foundation, whose interests are primarily in the fields of education, employment, environment, gun violence, money and politics, and culture.

David A. Erne is a member of the Board of Trustees of The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and a member of the Board of Directors of Northwestern Mutual's trust company affiliate.  He has served on the Executive, Investment, Audit and Operations and Technology Committees at Northwestern Mutual and serves on the Audit Committee of the trust company. 

Dave is the Independent Chairman of the Board of Directors of Artisan Funds Mutual Funds, Inc., a Milwaukee-based family of open-end funds with approximately $25 billion under management.  He also serves on the board of directors of a bank and of a bank holding company, and the boards of several nonprofit organizations. 

Dave received an BA with Distinction in Economics from Indiana University in 1965 and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1968.  He serves Of Counsel to Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c., a Milwaukee business law firm. 

Mr. Nicolaisen currently serves on the Board of Directors of Morgan Stanley, Verizon Communications Inc. and Zurich Financial Services.  In addition, Mr. Nicolaisen is on the Board of Advisors for the University of Southern California, Leventhal School of Accounting. Mr. Nicolaisen also serves in a variety of advisory capacities to other Fortune 25 companies. 

From September 2003 to November 2005, Mr. Nicolaisen was the Chief Accountant, US Securities and Exchange Commission.  In that capacity, Mr. Nicolaisen was the principal advisor to the Commission on accounting and auditing matters and was responsible for formulating and administering the accounting program and policies of the Commission.  This included responsibility for establishing and enforcing accounting and auditing policy to enhance the transparency and relevancy of financial reporting, and for improving the professional performance of public company auditors in order to ensure that financial statements used for investment decisions are presented fairly and have credibility.  In discharging his responsibilities, Mr. Nicolaisen had oversight responsibility of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and the Financial Accounting Standards Board.  Mr. Nicolaisen also managed a number of significant Commission projects including implementation of certain provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act such as the Section 404 internal control over financial reporting requirements, issuance of a “roadmap” to eliminating the reconciliation requirement from International Financial Reporting Standards to U.S. GAAP and ultimately convergence of these standards, and issuance of implementation guidance on the FASB’s Standard 123R on expensing stock options.  In addition, Mr. Nicolaisen co-led the Commission’s efforts around eXtensible Business Reporting (a technology that enables “tagging” of financial data), and he worked closely with other government agencies, members of Congress, investor representatives, registrants and audit firms.  During his tenure Mr. Nicolaisen strengthened and restructured the Office of the Chief Accountant, more than doubling its size.

Mr. Nicolaisen has spoken extensively in the United States and abroad. 

Prior to joining the SEC, Mr. Nicolaisen was a senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He began his career in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the firm’s predecessor, Price Waterhouse (PW), in 1967 upon completion of his B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater.  He has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1969.  Mr. Nicolaisen served on both the firm’s U.S. and Global Boards, led PW’s national office for accounting and SEC services, led PW’s financial services practice and was the engagement and global relationship partner for several of that firm’s largest clients including J.P. Morgan Chase and The Prudential. In addition to financial services, Mr. Nicolaisen has experience with many other industries, including manufacturing and distribution.  Mr. Nicolaisen was PW’s representative on the FASB’s Emerging Issues Task Force from 1988 to 1994.  Mr. Nicolaisen spent three years in Hamburg, Germany as a manager at PW from 1971 to 1974.

Mr. Nicolaisen and his wife, Sandie, have three children and six grandchildren.

Robert P. Hartwig is senior vice president and chief economist for the Insurance Information Institute.

Dr. Hartwig previously served as director of economic research and senior economist with the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) in Boca Raton, Florida, where he performed rate of return and cost of capital modeling and testified at workers’ compensation rate hearings in many states. He has also worked as senior economist for the Swiss Reinsurance Group in New York and as senior statistician for the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington, DC. He is a member of the American Economic Association, the American Risk and Insurance Association, the National Association of Business Economics and the CPCU Society and serves on the board of directors of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association of New York. Dr. Hartwig served in 2005 and 2006 on the state of Florida’s Task Force for Long-Term Homeowners Insurance Solutions.

Dr. Hartwig received his Ph.D. and Master of Science degrees in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He has served as an instructor at the University of Illinois and at Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Hartwig also holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) credential.

Dr. Hartwig has authored and co-authored papers that have appeared in numerous publications, including the Journal of Health Economics, the Proceedings of the Casualty Actuarial Society, the John Liner Review (where he also serves on the editorial board), Dossiers et Etudes (Geneva Association), the Journal of Workers’ Compensation, Global Reinsurance, Risk & Insurance, Insurance Day, Compensation and Benefits Review, and is a regular contributor to National Underwriter and many other industry trade publications.

Dr. Hartwig also makes frequent presentations to industry associations, company management, industry executives, analysts and clients and speaks internationally on a wide range of insurance issues. He has testified before numerous regulatory and legislative bodies, including the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises.

Dr. Hartwig serves as a media spokesperson for the property/casualty insurance industry, and is quoted frequently in leading publications such as The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Financial Times, BusinessWeek, Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report, CFO, Fortune, Forbes, The Economist and many others throughout the world. Dr. Hartwig also appears regularly on television, including appearances on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, CNBC, Fox, PBS and the BBC.

Pierre L. Ozendo was appointed to Swiss Re's Executive Board on 1 July 1996.  He has been CEO of the Americas P&C Division since January 1, 2006, where he is responsible for the Group’s property and casualty reinsurance operations in North, Central and Latin America. In addition to leading the P&C business in the United States, Canada, the English Caribbean and Latin America, Mr. Ozendo’s responsibilities include the effective integration of GE Insurance Solutions and Swiss Re's operations in the Americas.  He is based in the company’s North American headquarters in Armonk, NY.

Previous to his current position, Mr Ozendo was Head of the Group's Asia Division. He was appointed to that role in 1998 following Union Re's integration into Swiss Re.

Mr. Ozendo, a US and French citizen born in 1950, attended the University of San Francisco from 1968 to 1971, studied political science and earned a bachelor of arts degree.

Mr. Ozendo joined The Swiss Re Group in 1995, taking on an assignment as chief executive officer of the subsidiary Union Re, with effect from 1 January 1996. Before joining Swiss Re, Mr Ozendo worked for General Reinsurance Corporation from 1975 to 1995. In 1986 he moved to Switzerland as general manager of General Reinsurance Corporation (Europe) in Zurich. He was appointed president and managing director of General Re Europe Limited in July 1994. Mr Ozendo was previously employed as an underwriter by the New York Life Insurance Company in San Francisco.

Mr. Ozendo serves as a vice chairman of the Evian Group.

Edward M. Liddy is chairman and chief executive officer of The Allstate Corporation and Allstate Insurance Company, the largest publicly held personal lines insurance company in the United States. Prior to becoming chairman on January 1, 1999, he served as president and chief operating officer.

Before joining Allstate in August 1994, Liddy was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Company. He joined Sears in April 1988 and served in a variety of financial and operating positions before being named chief financial officer in February 1992.

From 1986 to 1988, Liddy was executive vice president of ADT, Inc., where he was also a member of the board of directors. Previously, he served for seven years in a series of positions with G.D. Searle & Co. where his last post was senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Liddy serves on the board of directors of 3M Company and The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. He is active in industry affairs, serving on the boards of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Insurance Information Institute. He is also a member of the Financial Services Forum, The Business Roundtable and Catalyst -- the leading non-profit organization working to advance women in business.

Liddy is also involved in charitable and civic endeavors. He is chairman of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and serves on the boards of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Northwestern University and the Museum of Science and Industry. He also serves on the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club and the Executives' Club of Chicago.

A native of New Brunswick, New Jersey, Liddy is a 1968 graduate of Catholic University of America and, in 1972, earned a master's degree in Business Administration from George Washington University.

Shri A.K.Shukla took over as the Chairman of the Life Insurance Corporation of India today at Yogakshema, the corporate headquarters. He was earlier Managing Director and Current-in-Charge. Simultaneously, Shri D.K.Mehrotra took over as Managing Director of the Corporation.
Shri Shukla joined LIC in 1968 as a Direct Recruit Officer. He has occupied various prestigious positions and made momentous contribution to LIC. A new Division, Udaipur was formed under his dynamic leadership.

Shri Shukla’s marketing dexterity was harnessed by the Marketing Department- Corporate Office for a couple of years in the cadre of Secretary. Given naturally to qualities of networking and relationships, it was no surprise that he occupied the position of Chief – Personnel, strengthening in the process the harmonious Industrial Relationship. He brought in many innovative schemes at the corporate level. He was the Executive Director (PR & CC) – a unique blend of Relationship- Building both, internal and external - prior to his appointment as Managing Director of LIC. He was conferred with 4 prestigious awards by independent organisations for his outstanding services, achievements and contributions – the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award 2003, by National Unity Congress, Delhi, the “Jewel of India Award” and “National Gold Star Award” by International Business Council, Delhi and the “Diamond of India Award” by United Indians, Delhi.

He believes that honesty & integrity are personal traits that give inner strength to boldly steer the institution to greater heights of competitive existence.

Shri D.K.Mehrotra, who took over as a Managing Director of the Corporation, was previously the Executive Director (International Operations).

Shri Mehrotra is an Honours Graduate in Science from the University of Patna. He joined the Life Insurance Corporation of India as a direct recruit officer of the X batch in 1977. Since then he has held many prestigious posts. He served in LIC’s branch at Suva, Fiji from 1985 to 1989. He headed the Dehra Dun and Ahmedabad Divisions of the LIC as the Senior Divisional Manager. He served the Western Zone with distinction as its Regional Manager (Mktg.) and also as Regional Manager (P & GS) and was primarily responsible for the tremendous growth in premium income. He later led the Eastern Zone as its Zonal Manager. During his tenure, the Zone achieved the distinction of selling the largest number of policies in the country.

He is an avid listener of music and a voracious reader of books on varied subjects, particularly management and marketing.

• Profile: Dr. Etti G, Baranoff is an associate professor of insurance and finance at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. She teaches insurance, pensions, employee benefits and finance topics to graduate and undergraduate classes. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Baranoff was a Texas insurance regulator for 12 years with specialty in rate regulation, solvency studies and modeling and legislative issues. Her career also includes experience with a life insurer, a Texas public risk pool and consulting. Dr. Baranoff has spoken in many insurance forms and has published in the Journal of Risk and Insurance, The Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Insurance Regulation, and Best’s Review, among others. Her research subjects include solvency detection models, capital and risk relationship, capital, risk, organization and distribution structures relationships, risk financing, impact of insurance regulation and risk management information systems. She received her Ph.D. in finance with minors in insurance and statistics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. She lives in Austin and commutes to teach at VCU.
