Esperanza Aguirre Gil de Biedermann was born in Madrid on January 3, 1952. Married with two children, graduated in law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and is an official of the Technical Corps of Information and Tourism. Minister of Education and Culture, first President of the Senate, Esperanza Aguirre is also the first elected female president of an autonomous community.

Brian Duperreault, age 63, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc.

Mr. Duperreault is a 30-year insurance industry veteran who has served at the top of his profession in numerous leadership roles, including 10 years as chief executive officer of ACE Limited and a member of the company’s Board of Directors from 1994 until 2007.

He served as executive Chairman of ACE until June 2006, when he retired as an employee and became non-executive Chairman. He served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ACE from November 1999 through May 2004 and as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer from October 1994 through November 1999.

Prior to joining ACE, Mr. Duperreault had been employed with American International Group, AIG, since 1973, and served in various senior executive positions with AIG and its affiliates from 1978 until September 1994, including as Executive Vice President, Foreign General Insurance and, concurrently, as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American International Underwriters Inc., AIU, from April 1994 to September 1994. Mr. Duperreault was President of AIU from 1991 to April 1994, and Chief Executive Officer of AIG affiliates in Japan and Korea from 1989 until 1991.

Mr. Duperreault serves as a member of the board of directors of Tyco International Ltd. and the Insurance Information Institute. He also serves on the boards of the Centre on Philanthropy, Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences and the International Insurance Society in the role Chairman. He is also a member of the Board of Overseers of the School of Risk Management of St. John's University.

Michael J. Morrissey has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the International Insurance Society since 2009, and has been a member for more than 18 years. The IIS is an organization of insurance executives, regulators and academics, whose mission is to facilitate the worldwide transfer of insurance research and innovations and to foster the development of

networks across international markets. The IIS, which was

formed in 1964, has over 900 members from more than 90 countries representing key insurance companies, academic regulators and associations around the globe.

Prior to joining the IIS, Mr. Morrissey was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Firemark Investments. Mr. Morrissey was the Chief Investment Officer for the firm and invested in public and private insurance companies around the world. Mr. Morrissey has advised insurance company managements and regulators, and served on a number of insurance company boards. Morrissey currently is a member on the board of directors of Selective Insurance Group, Inc., where he chairs the Finance Committee.

Mr. Morrissey is the global insurance industry representative on the G-20 Private Sector Taskforce of Regulated Professions and Industries. He is also a member of the American Risk & Insurance Association, the

Asia Pacific Risk & Insurance Association, the European Group of Risk & Insurance Economists, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He is a past president of the Association of Insurance and Financial Analysts.

Mr. Morrissey holds a B.A. from Boston College, an M.B.A. from

Ikuo Uno is Chairman of Nippon Life Insurance Company, which is one of the largest life insurers in Japan and the world that offers a wide range of individual and group products, from life & health insurance to annuities for retirement needs.
Mr. Uno joined Nippon Life in 1959, and has over fifty years of experience in the insurance industry. Since being appointed President in 1997, he has solidified Nippon Life’s financial basis, and led the company to be one of the most renowned names in the business.

He twice served as Chairman of the Life Insurance Association of Japan in 2000-1 and 2004-5. At the time, Mr. Uno led the industry in handling and coordinating the aftermaths of the five life insurance companies that had failed in the midst of financial difficulties in Japan.

Mr. Uno is a member of the board of directors and the board of auditors of various internationally known public companies in Japan. He also holds seats in numerous institutions and organizations and is regarded as one of the prominent figures in Japanese business circles today.

After serving in various management and leadership positions, Mr. Uno was appointed as Director and Member of the Board in 1986, Managing Director in 1989, Senior Managing Director in 1992 and Executive Vice President in 1994. Since 2007, Jerry M. de St. Paer has been Executive Chairman of GNAIE, the association of North American insurers representing the industry’s perspective in the development of international insurance accounting and solvency standards.

From 2007 to early 2008, he was Senior Vice President, Finance of AIG reporting independently to the Audit Committee on control and transformation initiatives.   He was Executive Vice President and CFO of XL Capital Ltd in Bermuda from 2001 to 2007.   Prior to that, he was a Managing Director of Hudson International and of JP Morgan in insurance investment banking.  From 1992 through 1996, Mr. de St. Paer served as Senior Executive Vice President & CFO of The Equitable Companies.  He was also Executive Vice President of the French insurer AXA, responsible for strategic studies and global corporate development.  Mr. de St. Paer joined The Equitable in 1986 as CFO of Equitable Investment Management Corporation. He was elected Senior Vice President and Treasurer of Equitable Life in 1990, and in 1991 Executive Vice President and head of Corporate Development, reporting to CEO Dick Jenrette.  Mr. de St. Paer managed the conversion of Equitable from a mutual to a stock company, including the investment in Equitable by AXA and Equitable’s  listing on the NYSE.

Axel P. Lehmann (born 1959, Swiss Citizen) is a member of the Group Executive Committee and Group Chief Risk Officer of Zurich Financial Services Ltd (Zurich). In 1996 he joined Zurich as a member of the Executive Management team of Zurich Switzerland and subsequently held various executive management positions as head of corporate development and head of commercial lines. Mr. Lehmann became a member of the Group Management Board responsible for Group-wide business development functions in November 2000. In September 2001 he took over responsibility as CEO for Northern, Central and Eastern Europe and subsequently was appointed CEO of the Zurich Group Germany. Mr. Lehmann was promoted to a member of the Group Executive Committee and CEO of the Continental Europe Business Division in March 2002. In 2004, he was in charge of the consolidation of the United Kingdom and Ireland division with the Continental Europe division and assumed responsibility as CEO for the creation of the integrated Europe General Insurance business division. In 1994/95 he served as a visiting professor at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. He subsequently assumed the position of head of Corporate Planning and Corporate Controlling at Swiss Life in Zurich. Mr. Lehmann is an honorary professor for business administration and service management and chairman of the board of the Institute of Insurance Economics (I.VW-HSG) at University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. He completed his studies in economics and business administration at the University of St. Gallen in 1984. In 1989 he was awarded the title of doctor and his PhD thesis was awarded the Peter Werhahn Prize for the best thesis in the area of management science and academic theory. After research study at Harvard Business School and Arizona State University, he received his postdoctoral qualification in 1996 and was appointed senior lecturer and assistant professor at the University of St. Gallen. Since 1998, Dr. Frank Ellenbuerger is a partner with KPMG. After completing his Ph.D. in economics, he joined KPMG Cologne in 1988 where he built up the Center of Competence Insurance. He also qualified as both a CPA and tax accountant.

Frank provided auditing and advisory services to large and mid-cap financial service and insurance clients. One of his main areas of expertise lies in the Solvency II topic and the resulting implications for the insurance industry.

Oscar Zimmerman is Chief Executive Officer of ScotiaLife, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank), a large Canadian based multinational with a presence in roughly 50 countries. He joined Scotiabank in 1992 as Senior Vice President, Scotia Insurance, with global responsibility for developing bancassurance. He has recently been appointed Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, Corporate Insurance, focusing on corporate oversight, insurance risk management and reinsurance business development as well as supporting the Bank’s Domestic and International Retail Insurance teams. David Angulo is the Bancassurance Director for Aviva Europe since October 2008, and joined Aviva Group in2007 as the Executive Chairman of Aviva Spain. His professional career began in 1992 in Gescapital, before he moved to Bankinter to manage the corporate banking division. Guy Roelandt began his career at DVV Insurance in 1976, as an actuary in the Life division, becoming manager of this division in 1981.
He was appointed to the DVV Management Board in 1984, at the same time assuming the duties of Adviser to the Executive Management Committee for the Life and Finance divisions of DVV Insurance. In 1985, his responsibilities on the Management Board were extended to Life, Finance and Investments.
In 1993, Mr. Roelandt was appointed to the role of Managing Director of DVV Insurance, before becoming Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of this same company in 1996. In 2001, he also became Vice-Chairman of the Dexia Insurance Management Board.
Since 2001, he has been Head of Dexia Insurance Services, responsible for all insurance activities within the Dexia group.
Guy Roelandt is also a director of several other companies within or associated with the Dexia Group. In addition he serves on the Management Board of Assuralia, where he also chairs the taxation committee.

Michaela Koller is the director general of the CEA, the European insurance and reinsurance federation. The European insurance market, as represented by the CEA, is the largest in the world, with a market share of over 40%. Michaela has worked in Brussels for 17 years. Prior to joining the CEA in February 2007, she was a member of the management committee of the European Savings Banks Group and the World Savings Banks Institute. Michaela has served as a member of various advisory groups established by the European Commission and testifies regularly in hearings organised by EU institutions.

Mr. Maurice R. Greenberg is Chairman and CEO of C. V. Starr and Company.  He joined C. V. Starr and Company as Vice President in 1960 and was given the additional responsibilities of President of American Home Assurance Company in 1962.  He was elected Director of C. V. Starr and Company in 1965, Chairman and CEO in 1968 and continues in that role.

Mr. Greenberg retired as Chairman and CEO of American International Group, Inc. (AIG) in March 2005, after serving as Chief Executive Officer from 1967 until March 2005.  Under his leadership AIG became the largest insurance company in the world and generated unprecedented value for AIG shareholders.  During the nearly 40 years of his leadership, AIG’s market value grew from $300 million to $l80 billion.   AIG was created by C.V. Starr & Company.

Mr. Greenberg served in the U. S. Army in Europe during World War II and in the Korean conflict, rising to the rank of Captain.  He is a recipient of the Bronze Star.

Mr. Greenberg received his pre-law certificate from the University of Miami and an LL.B from New York Law School in 1950.  He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1953.  He has been granted honorary degrees from a number of institutions, including New York Law School, Brown University, Middlebury College, The Rockefeller University and he is a Life Trustee of New York University.

He is the founding Chairman of the U.S.-Philippine Business Committee.  Mr. Greenberg is Honorary Vice Chairman and Director of the Council on Foreign Relations, former Chairman and current member of U.S.-Korea Business Council, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and member of the Executive Committee of the National Committee on United States-China Relations and a member of the U.S. – China Business Council.  Mr. Greenberg is Chairman of the Nixon Center.

Mr. Kang is the Deputy Governor of the FSS and also Head of the FSS’ Insurance Supervision Division. He is in charge of supervising Korea’s insurance market and insurers to enhance the financial soundness of insurers, ensure market stability, and protect the interests of consumers. Prior to his current position, he served as the Director General of the Insurance Examination Department from 2006 to May 2008, during which he was in charge of the examination of non-life insurers in Korea.

Deputy Governor Kang has spent most of his professional career in insurance supervision and has extensive experience ranging from insurance underwriting to reinsurance supervision. He began his career in insurance supervision in 1982 at the Insurance Supervisory Board where he supervised risk underwriting for Korean construction companies operating in the Middle East as well as the reinsurance operations of Korean insurers. The Insurance Supervisory Board and three other supervisory bodies were brought together into the FSS in 1999.

Deputy Governor Kang received his B.A. in Political Science and Diplomacy from Kookmin University in 1983 and his M.A. in Business Administration from Sungkyunkwan University in 1987. He also received a M.A. in Economics from Vanderbilt University of in 2001.

Mr. Duperreault is a 30-year insurance industry veteran who has served at the top of his profession in numerous leadership roles, including 10 years as chief executive officer of ACE Limited and a member of the company’s Board of Directors from 1994 until 2007.

He served as executive Chairman of ACE until June 2006, when he retired as an employee and became non-executive Chairman. He served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ACE from November 1999 through May 2004 and as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer from October 1994 through November 1999.

Prior to joining ACE, Mr. Duperreault had been employed with American International Group, AIG, since 1973, and served in various senior executive positions with AIG and its affiliates from 1978 until September 1994, including as Executive Vice President, Foreign General Insurance and, concurrently, as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American International Underwriters Inc., AIU, from April 1994 to September 1994. Mr. Duperreault was President of AIU from 1991 to April 1994, and Chief Executive Officer of AIG affiliates in Japan and Korea from 1989 until 1991.

Mr. Duperreault serves as a member of the board of directors of Tyco International Ltd. and the Insurance Information Institute. He also serves on the boards of the Centre on Philanthropy, Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences and the International Insurance Society in the role Chairman. He is also a member of the Board of Overseers of the School of Risk Management of St. John's University. 

Mr. Duperreault holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Saint Joseph’s University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Patricia Guinn is the Risk and Financial Services (RFS) business segment leader for Towers Watson. RFS provides solutions in risk and capital management, insurance and reinsurance intermediary services; investment and actuarial consulting to help clients improve their business performance, capital efficiency and ability to manage a broad range of risks. RFS includes the firm's brokerage, investment services, risk consulting and financial modeling software businesses.

Ms. Guinn formerly was managing director of Towers Perrin’s Risk and Financial Services segment and a member of Towers Perrin's executive council and board of directors prior to that firm’s merger with Watson Wyatt to form Towers Watson.

Named by Business Insurance as one of that publication’s “2009 Women to Watch� in the risk management profession, Tricia is also a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst. She currently serves as a board member of the International Insurance Society. In addition, she regularly shares her views on important matters affecting the insurance industry through presentations at industry and professional meetings and published articles. Tricia graduated with honors from Hendrix College and furthered her studies with postgraduate courses at Columbia University.

After graduating in mathematics, Volker Deville earned the doctorate in economics of the European University Institute. Areas of interest include international economics, demography, financial mathematics, and risk management; he lectures strategic management at Bayreuth University.

Volker Deville joined the Allianz Group in 1989, being responsible amongst others for global M&A activities and for financial planning and controlling. In 2000, he moved as deputy CEO to Allianz Life Insurance in South Korea. Some years later, he worked as Managing Director of Dresdner Bank on reducing its risk and exposure.

Since 2005, Volker Deville has served as Executive Vice President of Allianz SE as head of Group Development and currently at Government Relations and Public Policy. His tasks included the strategic positioning of the Allianz Group, international cooperation after the financial crisis, and work on risk and security issues.

Larry D. Zimpleman is chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Principal Financial Group®. He is responsible for overall management of the company. 

Zimpleman joined the company in 1971 as an actuarial intern.  From 1976 to 1997 he served in various management and leadership positions at the officer level in the pension department. He was named vice president in 1997, senior vice president in 1999, executive vice president in 2001, president of Retirement and Investor Services in 2003, and president and chief operating officer in 2006. He was named to president and chief executive officer in 2008 and to his current position in 2009.

Zimpleman earned his bachelor’s degree and his master’s degree in business administration from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.  He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for Drake University. He also serves on the Financial Services Roundtable Board & Executive Committee; on the board of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) and additionally serves as chair of the ACLI Retirement & Financial Security Steering Committee. He is Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary. Additionally, he is a member of: American Academy of Actuaries, Des Moines Actuaries’ Club, Iowa Business Council, and Business Roundtable.

Zimpleman has previously served as Chairman of the Board and a director of the Principal Funds. He has also served on the board of directors of the Employee Benefit Research Institute. He is a past president of the American Academy of Actuaries.  He is also a past member of the Board of Governors of the Society of Actuaries. In both 2002 and 2006, Zimpleman was elected to serve as a delegate to the National SAVER Summit held in Washington, D.C.

Nick joined MetLife from Swiss Re.  Whilst at Swiss Re, Nick was CFO of the UK Admin Re business, which acquires closed life and pension books. During his tenure, Admin Re successfully acquired GE Life and completed an administration and reinsurance deal with Norwich Union. This latter deal involved the transfer of 1,600 staff and three million policies and was the first such deal in the UK. Admin Re also secured annuity books in 2007 from Zurich, Friends Provident and CIS. Nick joined Swiss Re in 2005 from Prudential, where he spent 15 years in London and Reading in roles including Finance Director for UK Distribution, Head of Financial Planning and Analysis and Head of Protection.

Mr. Maciag has developed a broad knowledge and understanding of the role technology plays in the global insurance marketplace today.  He joined ACORD in 1977 and served in various roles including Vice President of Automation, Corporate Secretary & Treasurer and Executive Vice President prior to being appointed President in 1994.

Mr. Maciag led the expansion of ACORD to serve the Life & Annuity segment of our business followed by the merger with WISe in London and Brussels that increased global participation for large commercial lines and reinsurance, including the London Market.  He was a monthly guest technology columnist for ten years and is the author of two books “The Real-Time World� published in 2009 and “The Business Information Revolution� published in 2005. 

He is the principal advocate for industry standards and continues to author columns, host videos and moderate industry events.  He also publishes a personal blog.  Prior to joining ACORD, he held Operations and Systems positions with Chubb & Son and the National Council on Compensation Insurance.

ACORD is the nonprofit industry organization created in 1970 to support the development of standards to support the exchange of insurance information among all trading partners.

Bob is responsible for providing direct coverage of the insurance sector in Hong Kong and China and coordinating the Asia-Pacific insurance research products of Deutsche Bank. In addition to having been ranked in the Top 3 in the Greenwich Research Associate polls each year during the past three years, Bob and his team were ranked No.1 in the 2008/09 Institutional Investor poll's insurance category.  
Bob has been covering Asian financials since 2005 in Hong Kong, before which he covered insurance and diversified financials in Australia. He also worked as a regulatory analyst with the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority before starting his career as an equities analyst. Bob has various lecturing experiences at HK University, Macquarie University in Australia and with the Financial Research Centre at the State Council of China.

Steve leads the PwC Insurance Practice in New York, providing assurance, actuarial, tax, systems, M&A and risk management services to the US insurance industry. Steve also serves as the Global Relationship Partner for PwC audit clients Prudential Financial and New York Life.

From 2001 to 2004, Steve led PwC's Insurance Practice in Japan and supported numerous M&A activities amidst a period of significant restructuring. Steve's audit clients included Tokio Marine, Fuji Fire and Sony Life, as well as the Japanese operations of AXA, Prudential Financial and AIG. Steve also coordinated services throughout Asia for a number of international insurers.

Prior to Tokyo, Steve serviced clients throughout the midwestern United States, focusing on life insurers, property and casualty insurers and asset management firms, including audit clients Northwestern Mutual Life, Prudential PLC, Zurich Financial Services, Frank Russell Company and Merrill Lynch Asset Management.

Steve serves on the Board of the International Insurance Society and serves as Chairman of the Finance Committee. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of The Newark School of the Arts.

William Hawkins runs the European insurance research team of Keefe, Bruyette & Woods (KBW) in London. KBW is the largest full-service investment bank that specializes exclusively in the financial services sector. The European office was opened in 2004 and now employs about sixty-five people, including twenty analysts covering more than 100 shares of financial institutions, and seventeen specialist salespeople. The insurance team consists of six analysts covering about forty European insurance shares. As well as developing strategy and marketing the pan-European insurance sector, William is directly responsible for coverage of the quoted German insurance and European reinsurance companies. Prior to working at KBW, William was senior insurance analyst at Fox-Pitt, Kelton, which he joined in 1996.

Dr. Dorothea Diers studied mathematics and computer science at University of Muenster graduating and holding a PhD in pure mathematics. In addition she holds the certificate “Financial Risk Management“of University of Ulm.

Dorothea Diers starts her professional life working for a big international insurance group before joining Provinzial Nord West Holding AG (insurance group in Germany). As manager risk controlling she is responsible for the development and integration of group-wide internal models (non-life and life), risk capital calculations and risk management processes.

In addition she is lecturer at University of Ulm in actuarial studies. She is the author of many papers with topics dynamic financial analysis, asset/liability management, risk management, value and risk based management, Solvency II. She regularly presents the results of her research at international congresses (International ASTIN Colloquium, Annual Meeting of the American Risk and Insurance Association, International Congress of Actuaries, etc.).

Dorothea Diers is a fully qualified actuary and a member of the German Actuarial Association (DAV) and of several actuarial working groups of DAV such as Internal Models, Embedded Value in Non-Life Insurance, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), where actually an additional qualification for actuaries in ERM is developed. She gives courses in the actuarial education of DAV and European Actuarial Academy.

Chris Parsons is Professor in Insurance at the Sir John Cass Business School, City of London. He began his career with the Guardian Royal Exchange (now AXA) Insurance Group and joined Cass Business School in 1989. He is an Officer, Senior Examiner and textbook author for the UK Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). He is a recipient of the CII Morgan Owen Medal and Prize for the best research paper produced by a member of the CII, which has a world-wide membership of around 93,000 in 150 countries. Chris's main research interests are in the fields of non-life insurance (especially liability insurance), accident compensation and insurance law.  He is the author of two books on insurance law, contributes regularly to insurance and legal journals and lectures widely in the UK and overseas on law and insurance topics. In addition to his post at Cass, Chris is Visiting Professor at Warsaw University of Insurance and Banking and the University of Malta. In 2008 he received a Cass Business School prize for excellence in postgraduate teaching.

Joan Lamm-Tennant is the Global Chief Economist and Risk Strategist of Guy & Carpenter Company, LLC, a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies. As a member of the Specialty Executive Group, Joan coordinates and implements Guy Carpenter’s business vision as a risk/capital advisor and execution agent. Joan also serves Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. as the Head of Enterprise Risk Management, leading risk management processes for MMC and its operating companies. Prior to joining Guy Carpenter, Joan was the President of General Re Capital Consultants – a consulting arm of General Reinsurance Corporation who advises insurance companies on risk and capital management strategies.

When initially joining General Reinsurance Corporation in 1997, Joan served as a portfolio risk strategist, assisting the Chief Investment Officer and Board in setting asset allocation guidelines and a risk-adjusted performance benchmarking system for their $25 billion portfolio. Prior to her career in industry, Joan was the Thomas G. Labrecque Chair in Business and Professor of Finance at Villanova University with an extensive publication record and teaching awards in investments and risk-based portfolio management.
Joan serves as a Director of Selective Insurance (1994-present), serving on the Audit Committee and Finance Committee. She is a Director of Ivans (privately held technology company serving the insurance industry). Stephen Packard is a Director in Deloitte Consulting’s Insurance Strategy & Operations practice, based in Hartford, Connecticut.  He has more than 25 years of experience assisting insurance companies deal with some of their most complex business issues, including:  strategy formulation and execution; corporate restructuring; shareholder value analysis; competitive benchmarking; product development; mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; business turn-arounds; and technology strategy and implementation. 

Prior to joining Deloitte, Stephen served in a variety of senior executive positions at Aetna, Travelers, and The Hartford Insurance Group.  He is an attorney and a member of the Connecticut and New York State Bars.  He was formerly a partner in Accenture’s global insurance practice and leader of its U.S. Mergers & Acquisition practice.   

Stephen has written and spoken on numerous insurance topics at various U.S. and international industry forums. He is a longstanding member of the International Insurance Society, and a member of the IIS Research Committee.

Ikuo Uno is Chairman of Nippon Life Insurance Company, which is one of the largest life insurers in Japan and the world that offers a wide range of individual and group products, from life & health insurance to annuities for retirement needs.
Mr. Uno joined Nippon Life in 1959, and has over fifty years of experience in the insurance industry. Since being appointed President in 1997, he has solidified Nippon Life’s financial basis, and led the company to be one of the most renowned names in the business.

He twice served as Chairman of the Life Insurance Association of Japan in 2000-1 and 2004-5. At the time, Mr. Uno led the industry in handling and coordinating the aftermaths of the five life insurance companies that had failed in the midst of financial difficulties in Japan.

Mr. Uno is a member of the board of directors and the board of auditors of various internationally known public companies in Japan. He also holds seats in numerous institutions and organizations and is regarded as one of the prominent figures in Japanese business circles today.

After serving in various management and leadership positions, Mr. Uno was appointed as Director and Member of the Board in 1986, Managing Director in 1989, Senior Managing Director in 1992 and Executive Vice President in 1994. His responsibility during the period includes international investments, retail marketing and corporate planning. He served as President of the company for eight years before being appointed to his current position in 2005.

Mr. Uno holds a B.A. in Law from Tokyo University.

Eduardo is an insurance and reinsurance industry veteran of more than 35 years.  He began his career with GES Seguros in Spain and for the next 20 years held senior positions with several companies in Spain, the United States and the United Kingdom before joining RGA as a consultant in 1992. He became Vice President of International Development in 1995 and assumed a successful tenure as leader of RGA’s Spain and Portugal operations, which he continues to serve as Chairman of the Board following his move to Senior Vice President of RGA International Corporation in 2005.

An active participant in insurance industry professional development organizations, Eduardo has chaired several LOMA, LIMRA and other committees and is a regular speaker at conferences around the world including Spain, the United States, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, France and the United Kingdom.  He holds master’s degrees in business administration, marketing and sales, and public relations.

Greg Carter is a managing director at Fitch Ratings in the insurance division. Since January 2004, he has been responsible for overseeing the analytical team covering life and non-life companies throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. This team has grown steadily and now numbers 35. Previously, Greg worked at A.M. Best, which he joined in 1997 to head their London office - the first outside of the U.S. In that role, he was responsible for the analysis of European insurance companies and the development of the company’s operations and presence in London. Greg, along with the senior team of A.M. Best Europe, joined Fitch in 2001.

Greg began his career with Insurance Solvency International, which, in 1990, was purchased by Standard & Poor’s. He later joined Bank of America Capital Markets Credit as credit manager for the insurance portfolio in 1995. During that time, Greg was responsible for managing the bank’s credit exposure to European and Asian life and non-life insurance companies and insurance brokers.

Greg has been an insurance analyst since 1987.

Roger Sellek is based in London and oversees A.M. Best’s ratings, information-services and news businesses throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to joining A.M. Best, Roger was Commercial Director for Lloyd’s of London for six years, responsible for the market’s strategic business relationships with its investor base, brokers, the rating agencies and the financial-analyst community.  Shortly after joining Lloyd’s in 1996, Roger was appointed Head of Commercial Policy and subsequently became Managing Director of Lloyd’s Market Risk Unit, where he directed the development and application of the market’s risk-based capital system.  He had earlier worked as a consultant to the Equitas Project, assuming management responsibility for the analysis of all non-APH liabilities.

In addition to 15 years of extensive experience and achievement in the insurance and reinsurance sectors, Roger has a long academic background, graduating with a BSc in mathematical physics from the University of Exeter in 1978 and with a PhD three years later.  Roger also holds an MBA in strategic management from Imperial College at the University of London.  Between 1981 and 1992, Roger carried out post-doctoral research at the University of Cambridge and worked in a number of academic positions in the United Kingdom and overseas, including as a lecturer in applied mathematics at the University of Sydney, Australia.  He also spent 18 months as the National Squash Coach for Thailand.

Karel VAN HULLE is a lawyer by training and is Head of Unit at the European Commission (Directorate-General “Internal Market and Services�), which he joined in 1984 after having served 8 years with the Belgian Banking Commission.

He was subsequently Head of Unit for Accounting Standards, Head of Unit for Financial Reporting and Company Law and Head of Unit for Accounting and Auditing. In that capacity he was closely involved with harmonisation in the fields of accounting, auditing, and company law both at EU level and internationally and served as the Commission's observer with the International Accounting Standards Committee. He was Secretary of the High Level Group of Experts on Company Law which prepared the Commission’s 2003 Action Plan on Company Law.

Since November 2004, he is Head of the Insurance and Pensions Unit. In his present function, his main responsibility is the preparation of a new solvency regime for insurance and reinsurance companies (Solvency II).

Dr. Vaughan became the CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in February 2009.  As CEO, Dr. Vaughan oversees the operations of the NAIC in its efforts to support U.S. insurance regulation and serves as the NAIC’s chief spokesperson in Washington.

Prior to her current position, Dr. Vaughan was the Robb B. Kelley Distinguished Professor at Drake University, where she focused on the regulation and management of financial institutions.  From 1994 to 2004, she was the Iowa Insurance Commissioner.  She was the longest serving commissioner in Iowa’s history and served under the administrations of both major parties.  She was NAIC President in 2002. 

Dr. Vaughan has had a long-term interest in financial convergence issues, international developments in supervision and regulation, and regulatory modernization.   From 1999 to 2004, she was a member of the Joint Forum, a Basel-based group of banking, insurance, and securities supervisors created to address cross-sectoral and financial conglomerate issues.  During that period, she was also the NAIC’s chief liaison with U.S. banking regulators and an active member of the IAIS.   

Dr. Vaughan earned a Ph.D. in risk and insurance at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.B.A. in insurance and economics at the University of Iowa.  She is a CPCU, an ASA, an ACAS, and a MAAA.   She is the co-author of two college textbooks on insurance, a past editor of the Journal of Insurance Regulation, and the Immediate Past President of the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA), the premier academic association devoted to the study and promotion of knowledge about risk management and insurance.  

Donald Kramer, Chairman and CEO of Ariel Holdings Ltd., has a long history in the insurance and reinsurance business. He was the Vice Chairman of ACE Limited following its acquisition of Tempest Re, a company he founded and served as its initial CEO. He previously served as founder, Chairman and initial CEO of NAC Re, a company he developed from an inactive shell. Mr. Kramer has also held numerous senior executive positions in insurance, banking and investments, as CEO, president, chairman or general partner. He is a director of the National Benefit Life Insurance Company of New York, (a subsidiary of Citigroup), of Atrium Underwriting Ltd and of Valiant Insurance Group.

Mr. Kramer is also the Chairman of the Board of the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda, a trustee of The Brooklyn College Foundation and a director of the American Ballet Theater. Mr. Kramer holds an MBA from New York University, an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Brooklyn College and the professional designation of CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).

Greig is President, Chief Executive Officer, and a Director of Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated. Prior to becoming President of RGA, Greig served as Executive Vice President of General American Life Insurance Company, in charge of all reinsurance business. He joined General American in 1979 as an associate actuary. Greig then held a series of progressively more responsible positions within the reinsurance line and was named President and CEO in May of 1993 when RGA became a public company. Before coming to General American and RGA, Greig worked as an actuary at United Insurance Company in Chicago, Illinois.

James F. Dowd is the Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Fairfax Inc.  He also serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Polish Reinsurance Company, Warsaw, Poland.  He most recently served as Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Fairfax Asia Limited through May 2009.  His insurance career began with Skandia America Group in 1971 in New York City.  In April 1984, Mr. Dowd became President &Chief Executive Officer of Skandia America Group.  In February 1993, Mr. Dowd became Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Willis Faber North America.  In July 1995, Mr. Dowd returned to his former post as Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Skandia America Reinsurance Corporation, which is now known as Odyssey Re.  He serves as Vice Chairman of Odyssey Re Holdings.

Mr. Dowd currently serves on the following industry related boards: International Insurance Society Board of Directors and its Executive and Finance Committees; Board of Overseers of the School of Risk Management, Insurance & Actuarial Science of Peter J. Tobin College of Business of St. John’s University.

Mr. Dowd received a B.A. degree in Political Science from C.W. Post College of Long Island University in 1965 and his Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University School of Law in June 1968, and was shortly thereafter admitted to the New York Bar.  Mr. Dowd attended the Harvard Business School, Advanced Management Program in 1980. Mr. Dowd is a member of the American Bar Association.  He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association, Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel. 

A board member of Willis Re, Rowan leads the company's analytics team and resources to support risk modelling, risk management and reinsurance transactions. He is also Chairman of the Willis Research Network (WRN), the world's largest collaboration between public science and the re/insurance industry.

In 2008 Rowan was appointed by the UK Science Minister to Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) the public body which oversees public environmental science expenditure. He also sits on the Governing Board of the Global Earthquake Model Foundation, Pavia, Italy and the Advisory Committee of the US National Centre of Atmospheric Research Earth System Laboratory, Boulder, USA.

Rowan began his career underwriting reinsurance at Syndicate 1095 at Lloyd's before founding the international risk information company WIRE Ltd in 1994 which he sold to Willis in 2000.

Mr Douglas was educated in geography with degrees from Durham and Bristol universities.

Dr. Golnaraghi is the Chief of the World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Programme. Prior to joining WMO, in 2004, Dr. Golnaraghi served as a consultant to develop strategic priorities of WMO, a specialized United Nations agency, in the area of climate.  In 2008, she led a task team to develop components of the Global Framework for Climate Services for provision of climate information to support climate adaptation and risk management at the national level, which was adopted at the Third Ministerial World Climate Conference in September 2009.

In September 2004, Ms. Golnaraghi joined WMO to head up its new crosscutting DRR Programme.  In this capacity, she is responsible for development and management of strategic, implementation, financial, governance and institutional and partnership aspects of the Programme at international, regional and national levels. She has facilitated national and regional pilot projects supporting risk assessment and early warning systems in a number of countries in Asia, Central America, South Eastern Europe and Africa, in partnership with the World Bank, UN-ISDR, UNDP and other technical and bi-lateral funding agencies. In cooperation with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Bank, she is working on development of pilots in weather-indexed insurance targeted at agricultural risk management. Dr. Golnaraghi is coordinating multi-agency activities in multi-hazard early warning systems, including documentation of good practices, development of guidance for the governments and implementation of the national programmes in 26 countries such as the Shanghai Multi-Hazard Early Warning System,. She was the WMO focal point responsible for upgrading of the telecommunication systems to support the Indian Ocean tsunami warning system.

In 1996, she founded Climate Risk Solutions, Inc. (CRS), a research and consulting firm, and served as its president until 2004. Headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, CRS worked with government agencies in the United States, the private sector, the academia, national and global climate centres, to provide innovative climate risk management solutions for energy, agricultural and financial sectors. In this capacity, Ms. Golnaraghi worked extensively in the area of weather-indexed insurance and weather derivatives, facilitated private/public partnerships in the US, developed training programmes on climate risk management for companies, developed specialized climate information products for sectoral risk management. From 2000 to 2004, she served as a senior advisor to the CEO of Air Worldwide Corporation (AIR), a leading natural catastrophe risk modelling company and oversaw the development of AIR’s climate information system and related services targeted at the energy utilities and (re)insurance sectors.  She served as the Principal Investigator of a number of projects with the U.S. government related to applications of new climate technologies to sectoral planning.  

Dr.  Golnaraghi serves on a number of international committees and advisory boards such as advisor to the Global humanitarian Forum, chaired by Kofi Annan; advisor to the UN Envoy for Tsunami Reconstruction, Former President Clinton; Senior Advisor to WMO Secretary General and the ISDR Management Oversight Board, chaired by Sir John Holms, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.

She was the executive editor of The Climate Report, a quarterly publication of CRS and currently serves on the editorial board of WMO and other publications.  She has authored a number of papers in science and policy.

Dr. Golnaraghi holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, a Masters of Science in Applied Physics and a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from Harvard University with Professor Allan R. Robinson.  From 1993 to 1995, she worked as a research associate at the Harvard Business School.

Ernst Rauch studied from 1981 to 1986 at the Institute for General and Applied Geophysics at the University of Munich. He completed his diploma with a paper about ultrasonic velocity measures on core samples from the German Continental Deep Drilling Project (KTB) and then worked from 1986 to 1988 as a research assistant in the KTB's field laboratory and at the University of Munich.

In June 1988, Ernst Rauch joined the staff of Munich Re's Geo Risks Research Department. His work initially focussed on earthquake risk analysis and the development of an earthquake simulation model. Since the early 1990s – partly as a result of the high losses from the 1990 series of winter storms – his area of responsibility shifted increasingly to the analysis and modelling of meteorological risks. After becoming section leader in 2000, he was appointed head of the Meteorological and Climate Risks Department at Munich Re in April 2004.

In 2007 Ernst Rauch took on the responsibility of coordinating all Climate Change related activities in the Munich Re Group together with the function of department head of natural catastrophes research and development projects. Since April 2008 Ernst Rauch heads the newly founded Munich Re Corporate Climate Centre.   

He headed in 2009 the project office during the foundation period of the Dii GmbH (“Desertec Industrial Initiative�)

Ernst Rauch is a member of the German Geophysical Society, the Wind Engineering Society (WTG, Germany), the Australian Earthquake Engineering Society, and the American Association for Wind Engineering.

Andy Giffin is a recently Retired Principal of the Tillinghast insurance consulting unit of Towers Perrin (now Towers Watson) based in New York.  For 27 years Andy consulted on strategy and organizational issues for leading global and national insurers and banks primarily on matters of country market entry, expansion and repositioning in life and P&C insurance, pension and integrated financial services.  He managed projects in market entry, ERM program development, M&A transactions and integration, strategy implementation, regulatory issues and competitive market analysis.  Mr. Giffin was also the Publisher of Towers Perrin’s Emphasis magazine.

Prior to joining Towers Perrin in 1983, Andy served as Consultant for the Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID) [Indonesian insurance regulatory system], as Director of Management Services for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, as First Deputy Commissioner for the Massachusetts Division of Insurance and as Chief Counsel for the Pennsylvania Insurance Department.

Andy holds an MBA degree (Boston University), a JD degree (University of Wisconsin) and a BA degree (College of Wooster).  He currently serves as Vice President and as a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the International Insurance Society.  He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Insurance Foundation, which helps national insurance supervisors meet global regulatory standards.  He is a frequent speaker and author of numerous articles and book chapters on strategic management of domestic, foreign and global insurance operations.
