Ikuo Uno

Ikuo Uno is Chairman of Nippon Life Insurance Company, which is one of the largest life insurers in Japan and the world that offers a wide range of individual and group products, from life & health insurance to annuities for retirement needs.
Mr. Uno joined Nippon Life in 1959, and has over fifty years of experience in the insurance industry. Since being appointed President in 1997, he has solidified Nippon Life’s financial basis, and led the company to be one of the most renowned names in the business.
He twice served as Chairman of the Life Insurance Association of Japan in 2000-1 and 2004-5. At the time, Mr. Uno led the industry in handling and coordinating the aftermaths of the five life insurance companies that had failed in the midst of financial difficulties in Japan.
Mr. Uno is a member of the board of directors and the board of auditors of various internationally known public companies in Japan. He also holds seats in numerous institutions and organizations and is regarded as one of the prominent figures in Japanese business circles today.
After serving in various management and leadership positions, Mr. Uno was appointed as Director and Member of the Board in 1986, Managing Director in 1989, Senior Managing Director in 1992 and Executive Vice President in 1994. His responsibility during the period includes international investments, retail marketing and corporate planning. He served as President of the company for eight years before being appointed to his current position in 2005.
Mr. Uno holds a B.A. in Law from Tokyo University.
